Pointe

Pointe
At Moray Dance, the majority of dancers Grade Three and above are given the opportunity to join the Pre Pointe class.
The aim of this class is to prepare your dancer for Pointe work. Safety is paramount.
Over the year Miss Stephanie has been on multiple courses, researched, read, practiced and knows that there is no correct age, grade or time to say for sure when a dancer is ready for Pointe – every dancer is different. It is purely on the teacher to decide.
The recommend age is 12. The recommended Grade is Grade 5. The recommended time is when the dancer can show certain skills.
Miss Stephanie’s recommend age is – when they are ready.
Miss Stephanie’s recommended level is – when they are ready.
Miss Stephanie’s recommended time is when the dancer has committed to the two classes, plus the pointe class regularly, has committed to the home practice, and is able to pass her in house (on going) assessments.
The main requirement for joining this class is that your dancer has to be taking two RAD ballet classes per week, with Moray Dance.
You may feel that this something you cannot commit to which is absolutely fine, there is no rush or pressure to join the pre pointe class. Our dancers simply cannot do everything.
When your dance is ready to get the shoes, Miss Stephanie will let you know.
There is a shop called Arabesque in Perth that can fit pointe shoes. Demi pointes are also something Miss Stephanie recommends before Pointe shoes.
Sharon at Arabesque is outstanding. Her knowledge, range of shoes, time she takes, care given and face to face experience is something that the dancers will thoroughly enjoy.
Pointe shoes can range between £80-100, sometimes more. There could then be the cost of toe pads, dividers, or padding. Ribbons and elastic are usually included.
Although it’s an exciting time please do understand that every dancer is different. Some will be ready before others.
